The airport will give eight minutes of free use of the zone for all users, beyond which ₹150 will be charged for overstay from eight to 13 minutes, and ₹300 for 13 to 18 minutes. As of now, the new measures and overstay charges at the arrival kerbside have been implemented only at Terminal 2 of the airport.
The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which operates KIA, said that the new rules will come into force at Terminal 1 from December 13.
The new lane segregation system at the pick-up zone in front of KIA’s two terminals was supposed to be implemented from December 8, but was deferred by a couple of days due to disruptions of IndiGo flights.
“Following the stabilisation of the recent flight disruptions, KIA will proceed with implementation of the new pickup measures and overstay charges at the arrival kerbsides, effective December 11 at Terminal 2 and December 13 at Terminal 1. These measures are designed to streamline kerbside movement and enhance the overall landside experience for passengers and airport stakeholders, and we appreciate the continued support and cooperation of all partners during this transition,” said a BIAL spokesperson.
According to BIAL, the airport will give eight minutes of free use of the zone for all the users, beyond which ₹150 will be charged for overstay from eight to 13 minutes, and ₹300 for 13 to 18 minutes. Any vehicle overstaying beyond 18 minutes will be towed to the nearest police station, and applicable fines and towing charges will be levied.
It had said that the enhanced pick-up measures will be introduced to streamline passenger movement, reduce congestion, and improve safety, discipline, and overall convenience at arrival areas in the airport.
KIA, India’s third-largest airport, serves approximately 130,000 passengers every day.
“A daily volume of roughly 100,000 vehicles traversing the airport’s road network places significant strain on its landside facilities, particularly the kerbside (drop-off and pick-up lanes) in front of the terminals,” BIAL had stated.
60 IndiGo flights cancelled on December 11
IndiGo flight disruptions entered the 10th day on December 11 as 60 flights were cancelled at KIA. Airport officials said that 32 arrivals and 28 departures were cancelled.
