Residents of Arunachlapuram oppose rampant quarrying of earth from Kadambankulam irrigation tank in Sivakasi taluk

Residents of Arunachalapuram vilage in Saminatham Panchayat in Sivakasi Taluk have raised their arms in opposition to “rampant” mining of earth from Kadamabankulam irrigation tank for Sivakasi Ring Road undertaking.

The villagers, led by their head, S. Ayyanar, have petitioned Virudhunagar Collector, N.O. Sukhaputra, complaining that the contractor has violated all of the quarrying circumstances.

The petition, signed by a number of villagers, alleged that Kadambankulam tank was the first water supply for the village with 5 deep borewells sunk inside it.

“However, the officers had given “false” info and misguided the Collector in giving permission to quarry the earth,” Mr. Ayyanar stated.

The quarry operator had dug deeper into the irrigation tank for some 12 ft in several areas.

“This has destroyed the uniform mattress of the tank and thus water is not going to circulation into the sluice because the mattress degree has been decreased beneath the sluice degree,” he complained.
