Revenue officers informed to complete survey for coastal freeway challenge by October

Revenue officers in Ernakulam district have been requested to hurry up land acquisition procedures for the State authorities’s coastal freeway challenge. The officers had been on Wednesday instructed to amass and hand over the land for the stretch proposed between Vypeen and Munambam by March 2026, officers related to the challenge mentioned.

The directions got here up at a gathering of stakeholders, together with a consultant of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), on the collectorate on Wednesday. The assembly mentioned the schedule to speed up the method. According to the plan, survey works should be completed by October 31.

Survey procedures for the second stretch of the freeway within the district have been occurring since August 28. The authorities’s plan is to assemble the second stretch earlier than the primary one proposed from South Chellanam to Fort Kochi. Notification is but to be issued for land acquisition for the primary stretch.

The 625-km freeway challenge overlaying 9 districts has been proposed at a price of ₹6,500 crore. The freeway operating parallel to the prevailing nationwide freeway community may have a width of 14 metres. The Opposition UDF has raised considerations over the big-ticket challenge, saying it may displace lakhs of fisher households and upend their livelihoods.
