T.S. Surendran, chairman, Sankara Nethralaya and Pranab Basu, senior literary person, released the book. According to a press release, apart from medical practice and research, Dr. Biswas, who is a distinguished senior consultant, Uveitis, at Sankara Nethralaya, wrote non-fiction essays. The book is a compilation of his writings reflecting on patient interactions, travel experiences, and personal reflections on life. The book was earlier released in Kolkata.
Dr. Biswas, a pioneer in the fields of uveitis and ophthalmic pathology, has been associated with Sankara Nethralaya for the past 40 years. He has made significant contributions to clinical practice, research, and academic training in ophthalmology, a press release said. He has received 62 awards for his contributions including the Hari OM Ashram-Alembic Research Award of the Indian Council of Medical Research, conferred by the President, and lifetime achievement award from the All India Ophthalmological Society. He has been ranked eighth among Indian researchers in ophthalmology in the Stanford Top-Cited Researchers list and was named among the top 100 ophthalmologists in the Asia Pacific region by the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology in 2025.
Dr. Surendran said Dr. Biswas has published 597 articles, has 70 chapters in books on ophthalmology, and presented 300 papers in national and international conferences.
Dr. Biswas said that the proceeds from the book sales will go towards care of underprivileged paediatric patients with uveitis at Sankara Nethralaya.
