SI shoots at murder suspect after sustaining injury in petrol bomb attack in Chennai

A police officer of the Tiruvottiyur police station was injured when he tried to nab a history-sheeter who is suspected to have been part of the gang that murdered another history-sheeter, Sathya alias Aattu Sathya, on Wednesday (December 10, 2025) night.

The police said that in connection with Sathya’s murder by a 10-member gang due to previous enmity near Thiruchinankuppam, the Tiruvottiyur police arrested five persons and were searching for the remaining five accused, including Vicky alias Gundu Vicky.

On Thursday (December 11), the police arrested five persons: Kuralarasan and Surya of Ernavoor, and Ashok Prasad, Subash, and Selvaraj of Tsunami Nagar in Ennore. As the police team was searching for the remaining five members, Sub-Inspector Naveen went to the fishing harbour on Thursday night after receiving a tip-off that one of the absconding accused, Vicky, was hiding in the area.

At the harbour, Vicky threw a petrol bomb at Naveen, in which the police officer sustained a minor injury to his hand. The police said in self-defence, the SI shot Vicky in the leg.

Both the SI and the accused were taken to the Stanley Government Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The police are searching for the remaining four accused: Vinod, Vadivelu, Roshan, and Kasappu Samuel.
