The notice, issued on January 22, 2026 under Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, stated that the investigation had indicated that Rama Rao was aware of certain facts and circumstances linked to the case and that his presence was required to assist the probe.
The summons comes days after former Minister and Siddipet MLA T. Harish Rao appeared before the SIT on January 20 in connection with the same case.

The Telangana government recently constituted a 10-member Special Investigation Team, headed by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar, to expedite the investigation into the alleged phone tapping, nearly 21 months after the crime was registered. Jubilee Hills Assistant Commissioner of Police P. Venkatagiri, who has been associated with the probe since its early stages, has been appointed as the investigating officer of the SIT.
The case pertains to allegations that phone calls were illegally intercepted through the Special Intelligence Branch to benefit the Bharat Rashtra Samithi.
The matter came to light following the arrest of former SIB Deputy Superintendent of Police Praneeth Rao on March 13, 2024. He was taken into custody from his residence in Rajanna Sircilla district after a complaint by his superior, Additional Superintendent of Police D. Ramesh, alleging unauthorised interception of the calls of several senior political leaders and government officials.
