Six college students from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) have been detained on Sunday (October 19, 2025), a day after Left-affiliated pupil teams held a campus protest towards alleged violence by members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) throughout the current normal physique conferences (GBMs).

The group accused the JNUSU of violating democratic procedures whereas saying the Election Committee (EC) throughout the GBMs of the School of Social Sciences (SSS) and the School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies (SLL&CS). 

“The accountability for the irregularities occurring in JNU lies completely with the Left teams. At the SSS GBM, the JNUSU president unilaterally declared the Election Committee inside 5 minutes, with none proposal, voting, or headcount. This dictatorial behaviour is a violation of JNU’s democratic framework and a betrayal of scholars’ belief,” the ABVP stated in an announcement.
