Two aged individuals lose over 17 lakh to cyber fraud

In separate instances case of cyber fraud, two senior residents from Mangaluru metropolis have misplaced over ₹17 lakh.

A 63-year-old individual misplaced ₹13.92 lakh in a web-based funding fraud. In the grievance, the sufferer stated quickly after he clicked on the hyperlink below a video displaying dialog of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and MP Sudha Murthy on Facebook, he received a message asking him to put money into on-line buying and selling.

He acquired name from one Nandini Tyagi whereby the caller stated about income for on-line investments. The complainant then acquired one other name, who claimed to be a monetary professional. On his recommendation, the complainant transferred a complete of ₹13.92 lakh to completely different financial institution accounts between August 28 and October 22. When he requested for return on investments, fraudsters refused, which pressured him to file the grievance.

The complainant filed the grievance by calling 1930 Cyber Crime Helpline. The grievance was referred to the Barke Police Station, which registered it for offences below provisions of IT Act.

Another case: APK file

A 74-year outdated retired worker misplaced ₹3.83 lakh from two completely different financial institution accounts after he downloaded an APK file despatched by a fraudster.

In the grievance, the sufferer stated he went on Google to seek for service centre for washer and located a contact quantity. He acquired an APK file by means of Whatsapp from that quantity, which he downloaded. Gradually a complete ₹2.35 lakh was deducted from his Union Bank account and ₹1.48 lakh received deducted from his Canara Bank account.

The Mangaluru Rural police have registered the compliant.
