Police arrested two individuals, together with a lady, for allegedly dishonest 38 individuals in metropolis by promising to take them on a non secular tour of Mount Kailash.
Perumal, 54, who works within the Thiruvateeswarar Temple in Triplicane, was approached by Selvi, who advised him that her acquaintance, Swatheeswaran of Ambattur, was organising a non secular tour of Mount Kailash. Perumal and several other others paid between ₹35,000 and ₹45,000 every to hitch the journey.
However, every time the promised date of the journey arrived, the organisers postponed it repeatedly. When the victims demanded a refund, Swatheeswaran absconded.
On investigation, the Zam Bazaar police arrested Swatheeswaran, 34, of Ambattur, and Selvi, 58, of Royapettah, on Tuesday.
Investigations revealed that Selvi collected cash from devotees on the temple by promising the journey. About 38 individuals had transferred about ₹12.7 lakh. The duo had additionally cheated individuals from different components of town, police mentioned.
However, every time the promised date of the journey arrived, the organisers postponed it repeatedly. When the victims demanded a refund, Swatheeswaran switched off his telephone and went absconding. Perumal and others lodged complaints on the Jam Bazaar Police Station.
