According to police, Rejila, 35, was raising cattle and it said that her bovines had entered the farm in their locality owned by B. Viyayakumar, 40, and damaged banana trees and other plants while grazing.
Following this, Vijakumar warned Rejila and lodged a complaint at Anjugramam police station on December 29.
The police summoned Rejila to the station on December 30 for an inquiry. On Tuesday morning, before Rejila visited the station, her husband Saravanakumar got into a heated altercation with Vijayakumar’s family, regarding the complaint.
In the aftermath of clash, Rejila allegedly attempted to end her life and was admitted to Kanniyakumari Government Medical College and Hospital where she died on Tuesday evening.
Following her death, her husband and relatives submitted a petition at Kanniyakumari SP office in Nagercoil, stating that they would not receive Rejila’s body unless Vijayakumar and his brother B. Maheshkumar, 45, are arrested.
Police said that since Rejila had not left any statement or evidence indicating that the individuals were responsible for death, they could be arrested only after the post mortem report confirms the cause of death. The report is expected to clarify on the cause of death.
Further investigation are under way.
