Alleging irregularities in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Monday (December 1, 2025) sought an audit of all 1.25 crore entries made between November 26 and 28 during the enumeration process

“We have a specific demand that all entries (for the enumeration process) of about 1.25 crore made from November 26 to 28 be examined by the special observers and ECI’s technical team using all technology available with the Commission,” Mr. Adhikari told West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal.

A delegation of BJP MLAs led by Suvendu Adhikari met the CEO and alleged that a section of officials of the West Bengal government, along with officials of I-PAC (political consultants engaged by Trinamool Congress), have indulged in grave irregularities during the digitisation during SIR-2025.

“Between 26-28 November, digitisation figures jumped from 5.5 crore to 6.75 crore, an abnormal and statistically impossible jump of 1.25 crore entries within just three days. Widespread inputs from the field indicate that this surge was achieved not by BLOs, but by IPAC, known to be very close to the ruling TMC illegally performing digitisation tasks,” the letter by BJP delegation to the CEO said.

The BJP leaders who signed the letter claimed that there was a persistent failure to delete dead voters, which is undermining voter roll credibility“Despite repeated alerts and documented complaints from our district units, dead voters are not being systematically deleted. This deliberate inaction is resulting in a voter roll that is inflated, inaccurate and open to exploitation,” the letter stated.

The other demand raised by the BJP delegation was the continued functioning of irregularly appointed EROs in clear violation of ECI mandate .”Despite our specific objections, EROs below SDO / equivalent level as per the instructions of ECI, continue to function across the state. Your office has taken no practical corrective measures, leading to poor-quality verification, compromised neutrality, and breakdown of SIR protocol,” the BJP MLAs letter to CEO said.

Over the past several days the BJP leadership in West Bengal have been targeting the Election Commission of India (ECI) and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). The total number of electors in West Bengal stands at 7.66 crore and by December 1, 99.90 % enrolment forms (EF) have been distributed and 96.37 % (EF) have been digitised.

Earlier on Monday (December 1), when the BJP delegation visited CEO’s office in Kolkata, they came face to face with the protesting BLOs ( Block Level Officers) who were blocking the entrance to the CEO’s office. For the past several days, members of ‘BLO Adhikar Raksha Committee’ have been protesting outside the CEO’s office.

The protesting BLOs, most of whom are supporters of Trinamool Congress, raised slogans “Suvendu Adhikari Go Back”, Supporters of the BJP have joined the party MLAs and gathered at the spot. The BJP leaders raised questions on how the Kolkata Police given permission to the protesters to hold the protests outside the CEO office.
