Court denies bail to 2 accused in Mirwaiz Moulvi Farooqs assassination case

The bail functions moved by two accused within the assassination of Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq have been dismissed by the designated Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) Court in Jammu on Tuesday (September 16, 2025).

The functions have been moved by Javid Bhat and Zahoor Bhat, who have been arrested after 33 years in 2023 by the J&Ok Police’s Special Investigation Agency (SIA). Hearing the bail functions on medical grounds, the TADA Court refused to grant the identical. 

Mr. Farooq, a distinguished non secular and political determine and likewise father of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, was assassinated by gunmen in 1990 at his residence. The Central Bureau of Investigation had recognized Hizbul Mujahideen ‘commanders’ Abdullah Bangroo and Rehman Shigan as those behind the conspiracy. The CBI accused Javid Bhat and Zahoor of finishing up the assault. Both the accused are the residents of Srinagar.

According to the police information, Bangroo and Shigan have been killed in encounters with the safety forces. Another accused, Ayub Dar, has been sentenced to life imprisonment. At least 35 mourners have been killed in Srinagar’s Hawal when the safety forces opened fireplace on the funeral procession after the assassination.

In 2023, the police mentioned the duo “surreptitiously returned to Kashmir a couple of years in the past”.

“Maintaining a low profile, altering addresses and shifting residences, they prevented the gaze of regulation enforcement businesses,” the police had mentioned.
