GoM to contemplate proposal to boost infrastructure, lengthen time for completion of Ramayapatnam Port works

The Government of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday constituted a Group of Ministers’ (GoM) committee to look at the proposal for enhancing the dredging, reclamation and inside & exterior (highway & rail) connectivity works and Extension of Time (EoT) for completion of the Phase-I works on the Ramayapatnam Port and make appropriate suggestions.

The GoM includes the Ministers of Finance, Infrastructure & Investment, and Tourism, whereas the Secretary (Infrastructure & Investment) will likely be its convener.

The authorities had in February 2020 constituted a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) — the Ramayapatnam Port Development Corporation Limited (RPDCL) — for taking over port improvement and port-led improvement.

Simultaneously, administrative sanction had been given for phase-I works with a price of ₹3,736.14 crore, and the identical was later revised to ₹4,929 crore as really helpful by the technical committee.

The development of the port was being performed underneath the general supervision of the A.P. Maritime Board (APMB). The scheduled date of completion of the challenge was June 23, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of the APMB sought the federal government’s steering on the proposal for enhancement of the present infrastructure to make sure the port’s industrial viability and its means to deal with the projected cargo quantity of 34.04 MMTPA — primarily coal and iron ore — stating that it was important to extend the port’s draft from 16m to 18.5m.

This would allow the port to accommodate Cape dimension and Super Cape dimension vessels, aligning its capabilities with regional and international delivery tendencies similar to further dredging at method channel and berth pockets, further railway traces as much as the proposed backup yard behind three multi-purpose berths, improvement of backup yard infrastructure for storage of cargo, motion of vans, and operation of fabric dealing with tools, and extra exterior highway connectivity and inside highway connectivity throughout the port.

The APMB additionally requested Extension of Time (EoT) as much as April 27, 2026, to the contractor for completion of the works attributable to evaluation of labor stoppages, delays in land handover, and many others.

To think about the proposal, the GoM was constituted and requested to submit its report / suggestions at an early date.
