Notably, the tabling of the federal government decision and subsequent voting occurred after the Opposition benches emptied, following the United Democratic Front’s (UDF) ongoing boycott of legislative enterprise over the alleged “misappropriation, replication and sale” of Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple artefacts to rich collectors.
Tabling the decision, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M.B. Rajesh mentioned the UDF members had “crossed the purpose of no return” by severely injuring Watch and Ward personnel, together with ladies, shielding Speaker A.N. Shamseer from the Opposition members’ “bodily trespasses on the Chair.”
Chief Marshal ‘injured’
He mentioned the UDF’s “violence” severely injured the Chief Marshal, M. Shibu, who sustained a grave fracture on his proper arm when trying to stop Opposition legislators from storming the Speaker’s dias. “Mr. Shibu is scheduled for an emergency surgical procedure on the Government Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram”, he mentioned.
Mr. Rajesh mentioned the UDF had been on the warpath because the Assembly resumed after a hiatus on October 6. “Expressing disenchantment with the High Court-ordered Crime Branch inquiry into the theft of gold coverings from Sabarimala, the UDF repeatedly disrupted legislative enterprise”, he mentioned.
Mr. Rajesh mentioned the UDF stayed away from debates on essential Bills, “betraying the belief reposed in them by their constituents and the general public at giant.”
He mentioned the federal government had agreed to an adjournment debate on the Sabarimala subject. However, the UDF, “unwilling to face the information and eager on laying down a smokescreen of lies to attain political brownie factors”, turned down the ruling entrance’s supply, he mentioned.
Mr. Rajesh accused the UDF of spurning the Speaker’s intermediation between the federal government and the Opposition for the graceful conduct of legislative enterprise and Assembly proceedings.
He additionally accused UDF members of speeding in direction of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who’s the Leader of the House, and manhandling ladies Watch and Ward personnel repeatedly.
Earlier, Mr. Rajesh had accused Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan of “unleashing terror” within the House.
The Treasury benches handed the “condemnatory decision” by voice vote.
