The India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Wednesday (October 22, 2025) has issued a pink alert for 3 districts in Kerala: Malappuram, Palakkad and Idukki. In Tamil Nadu, a pink alert has been issued for Cuddalore, Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram districts, and the Puducherry and Karaikal areas.

Malappuram, Palakkad and Idukki district administrations have declared a vacation for academic establishments of their respective districts.

All academic establishments have been declared shut in: Puducherry and Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai, Kallakurichi, Kancheepuram districts of Tamil Nadu.

In Chennai, Salem, Perambalur, Namakkal, Pudukkottai and Tiruchirapalli districts, faculties alone have been shut as a precautionary measure.
