NHAI to do geotechnical inspection of landslip-hit spot in Munnar

The State Public Works Department’s (PWD) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will conduct a geotechnical inspection the place a significant landslip occurred close to Munnar – on the Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway (NH) – early on Sunday (July 27). The incident spot sits near the previous Government Arts College which was the positioning of a significant landslip in 2018.

“The NHAI has approached its geotechnical wing to review the soil situation of the street within the space. Based on the research, the NH will take precautionary steps to keep away from such incidents on the stretch. The climate and soil circumstances within the space pose main challenges,” stated an NH official.

Meanwhile, the NH authorities started particles clearing works on the landslip spot on Monday (July 28).

An official of the NH stated that the large quantity of rock and soil that fell on the street will take extra time to renew site visitors at full capability. “The NH wing already organized excavators and earth movers for the speedy elimination of particles from the street. We plan to renew the single-lane site visitors from Tuesday night. Only after the elimination of the soil can we perceive if the street suffered any harm as a result of landslip,” stated the official.

Two main landslips hit the realm lately. According to the Revenue division officers, the primary occurred at round 10 p.m. on Saturday. A transferring lorry was trapped underneath the particles, and the car driver, Ganeshan (58), a resident, died, and the helper, Murukan (50), sustained accidents. The second occurred on Sunday morning and resulted in enormous harm. Following this, the district administration suspended site visitors on the Munnar-Devikulam route.

“The latest landslip occurred close to to the spot the place a significant landslip had hit in 2018,” stated the official. In the August 2018 floods, the realm witnessed a significant landslip, which broken a constructing of the Government Arts College that was in operation there. Following the incident, the faculty was relocated to a different web site.
