Overage automobiles registered wherever in India will probably be denied gas in Delhi from July 1: CAQM

The CAQM has introduced that from July 1, all end-of-life automobiles will probably be barred from receiving gas in Delhi. ANPR cameras will establish these automobiles.

All end-of-life (EOL) automobiles — diesel automobiles older than 10 years and petrol automobiles older than 15 years — no matter the states they’re registered in, won’t be given gas in Delhi beginning July 1, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) clarified on Friday.

The CAQM had issued instructions to gas stations in April, saying no EOL automobile must be given gas from July 1.

A complete of 500 out of 520 gas stations in Delhi have put in Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and the remainder will probably be coated by June 30.

These cameras will detect automobiles older than 10 years (diesel) or 15 years (petrol) and an alert will probably be sounded to the command centre and enforcement groups comprising visitors and transport division officers which is able to impound the automobiles.

This mechanism will probably be rolled out in 5 high-vehicle-density districts adjoining Delhi, together with Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar and Sonipat, from November 1 this 12 months, with the set up of ANPR cameras to be accomplished by October 31.

The remaining NCR districts have been given time until March 31, 2026, to put in the cameras, with gas denial for EOL automobiles beginning April 1, 2026.

“Our directions do not say that only EOL vehicles registered in Delhi will be detected and denied fuel. Vehicles registered outside Delhi-NCR also ply on Delhi roads and contribute to pollution. If (Delhi) people register their vehicles outside… that has to be deterred. We know that this is happening,” Virinder Sharma, Member (Technical), CAQM, mentioned.

EOL buses registered wherever in India will probably be detected via this mechanism. However, separate instructions will probably be issued to curb their motion in Delhi-NCR, the official mentioned.

Sharma mentioned 100 enforcement groups comprising officers from visitors and transport departments have been arrange.

Strict motion will probably be taken towards gas stations discovered flouting the instructions underneath related provisions of regulation, he mentioned.

The CAQM shared that there are 62 lakh EOL automobiles in Delhi, of which 41 lakh are two-wheelers. The variety of EOL automobiles in the complete NCR stands at round 44 lakh and these are largely concentrated within the 5 high-density cities.
