Punjab Finance Minister Cheema criticises Centres GST price rationalisation, phrases it irresponsible

Criticising the Goods and Services Tax (GST) price rationalisation and terming it “irresponsible”, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has requested the Central authorities to right away launch compensation of ₹50,000 crore to Punjab to cowl losses after GST implementation.

He stated that regardless of receiving roughly ₹60,000 crore as compensation from the Centre, ₹50,000 crore remains to be pending. The Central authorities had introduced a 5-year compensation package deal to states in lieu of economic losses incurred resulting from GST implementation, however this compensation has now been discontinued, he stated.

“While the Punjab authorities will not be against the rationalisation of GST charges, the Union authorities should take accountability for the ensuing monetary losses to the states. The BJP-led Central authorities is repeatedly undermining the monetary construction of states, which is a major assault on the federal construction of the nation. The Central authorities is even evading the discharge of funds to Punjab. Apart from GST, ₹8,000 crore of rural growth funds and over ₹1,000 crore below the Prime Minister’s Road Scheme are additionally being withheld,” he stated.
