Red alert for heavy rain in Kerala tomorrow; faculties in 8 districts shut

All academic establishments in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Kannur, Kasaragod, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur, are closed for Monday.

In view of the persevering with heavy rainfall and a purple alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a vacation has been declared for all academic establishments in a number of districts of Kerala on Monday.

The closure applies to varsities, Anganwadis, madrasas, tuition facilities, and different academic establishments within the districts of Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Kannur, Kasaragod, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur.

Kozhikode collector Snehil Kumar Singh mentioned, “In view of the Red Alert issued in the district and continuous heavy rainfall, all educational institutions in Kozhikode district will remain closed on Monday, June 16. This includes Anganwadis, madrasas, and tuition centres.”

Authorities have urged residents to stay vigilant, particularly in landslide-prone and low-lying areas. The State Disaster Management Authority has suggested the general public to keep away from pointless journey and to strictly comply with the protection pointers issued by native administrations.

According to IMD, heavy (7-11cm in 24 hours) to very heavy (12-20cm in 24 hours) with remoted Extremely Heavy (>20 cm in 24 hours) rainfall may be very more likely to happen at a number of locations in Kerala from 14th to seventeenth June 2025.
