Retired BU professor B.C. Mylarappa booked for stalking, sexual harassment

Police on Friday summoned retired Bangalore University professor B.C. Mylarappa after a 37-year-old lady, who had beforehand labored with him, filed a grievance alleging stalking and sexual harassment.

The lady claimed that Mylarappa had just lately been following her and had demanded ₹1.5 crore in alternate for leaving her alone.

According to the complainant, she labored on the Karnataka State Harijana Sevaka Sangha, an organisation run by Mylarappa, between November 2022 and May 2024.

She mentioned that after she left the organisation, she had been concerned in a authorized dispute over a property, which was being dealt with by an advocate who was additionally her former classmate.

In the final week of September, Mylarappa allegedly known as her close to the ISKCON temple and shouted at her for refusing to signal a doc stating that ‘something that occurs to her must be blamed on the advocate dealing with her case’.

“After this incident, he saved following me. He stood at my door, ringing the bell for hours,” she informed the police. When confronted, Mylarappa allegedly demanded ₹1.5 crore to go away her alone.

On October 9, Mylarappa allegedly rang her doorbell repeatedly for 2 hours, inflicting her misery and prompting her to file a police grievance.

The Basaveshwara Nagar police have booked Mylarappa underneath Sections 74 (felony pressure towards a girl with intent to outrage her modesty), 75 (sexual harassment), 78 (stalking), 79 (any phrase, gesture, or act supposed to insult a girl’s modesty or intrude upon her privateness), 352 (intentional insult with intent to impress a breach of peace), and 351(2) (felony intimidation) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

In a separate case, the father-in-law of the advocate dealing with the complainant’s case filed one other grievance on the Kamakshipalya Police Station, alleging that Mylarappa had threatened them and their relative, the advocate.

A senior police officer informed The Hindu that Mylarappa was questioned on Friday however he has secured bail within the case.
