Satellite Images Indicate Significant Damage to Pakistani Airbases and Radar Systems Following Indian Strikes

New Delhi: Recent satellite imagery and reports from multiple defense and news sources suggest that Indian Air Force strikes have inflicted considerable damage on several Pakistan Air Force (PAF) airbases and criticallydamaged key radar installations, including American-made AN/TPS-77 systems. The strikes, part of India’sresponse to recent aggressions, appear to have significantly impacted Pakistan’s air defense capabilities.

According to the satellite images reveal the destruction ofat least three American AN/TPS-77 radars and hits on main radar installations at seven PAF airbases. These airbases are reported to include Sargodha, Sukkur, Bholari, Jacobabad, Nur Khan (Chaklala), Rahim Yar Khan, Pasrur, Chunian, and Arifwala, with various sources confirming strikes on these locations.

Analysis of satellite imagery by open-source intelligence experts, such as Damien Symon (@detresfa_), referenced by several news outlets including Swarajya Magazine and India Today, appears to corroborate claims of damage to radar sites and infrastructure at multiple Pakistani airbases. The imagery reportedly shows signs of impact, such as craters, damaged buildings, and destroyed equipment.

During a press briefing on Sunday, May 11, 2025, the Indian Armed Forces reportedly shared before-and-after satellite images specifically illustrating the destruction of Pakistani air defense radars at Pasrur, Chunian, and Arifwala, according to an India Today report.

Further supporting the claims of successful strikes and impact on Pakistani air capabilities, Air Marshal AK Bharti,Director General of Air Operations for the Indian Air Force, was quoted by the Times of India stating that the IAF conducted coordinated precision strikes on high-value targets and successfully downed multiple PAF aircraft that attempted to breach Indian airspace. “Their planes were prevented from entering our borders. We have definitely downed a few planes and inflicted losses on their side,” Air Marshal Bharti reportedly said.

While the extent of the damage to specific radar types, including the AN/TPS-77, is still being fully assessed, Pakistan is known to operate these advanced mobile long-range surveillance radars, acquired from Lockheed Martin.Reports from sources like Wikipedia and Financial Express confirm Pakistan’s induction of AN/TPS-77 radars to enhance its air defense network.Meanwhile, Pakistani sources, as reported by idrw.org, also provided details of an attack on Bholari Air Base.

According to these reports, which include statements attributed to former Pakistani President Arif Alvi, a missiles strike on a hangar at the base resulted in casualties and damage. The report identified five fatalities, Including Squadron Leader Usman Yousaf of the Pakistan Air Force, and named several injured personnel: Flight Lieutenant Saroosh, HS2 Bilal, Senior Technician Hafeez, Junior Technician Chaman, and Senior Technician Mubashir. The strike also reportedly destroyed a Saab-2000 aircraft.

The satellite imagery and corroborating reports from multiple sources underscore the impact of the recent Indian strikes on Pakistan’s military infrastructure, particularly its air defense radar network and airbase facilities. The targeting of radar systems is seen by defense analysts as a critical step in degrading an adversary’s ability to detect and respond to aerial threats.
