The Supreme Court has begun to listen to a habeas corpus petition filed by local weather activist Sonam Wangchuk’s spouse, Dr. Gitanjali J. Angmo, in opposition to the preventive detention of her husband below the National Security Act (NSA), 1980, following violent protests on September 24 in Leh. 

A Bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N.V. Anjaria would hear the plea on the day of reopening of the highest court docket after the week-long Dussehra trip.

Ms. Angmo has requested the apex court docket to direct the authorities to provide Mr. Wangchuk in court docket. She submitted that it has been every week since Mr. Wangchuk was reported to have been detained at Jodhpur in Rajasthan on September 26. She mentioned there was no details about the grounds of his detention or concerning the state of his well being. She sought his speedy launch.
