Two employees died and 4 others have been critically injured on Friday (October 17, 2025) in a blast at a shipbuilding yard at Rassai village in south Goa, some 30 kilometres from Panaji, an official stated.

The incident befell at 6:30 p.m. within the shipbuilding yard owned by Vijai Marine Services, the senior Fire and Emergency Services official stated.

“When our crew arrived on the spot, two employees have been already useless and 4 others have been critically injured. Prima facie, it appears a cylinder exploded. The blast befell inside an under-construction ship,” the official stated.

The injured employees have been first taken to South Goa District Hospital in Margao after which shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital close to Panaji, a police official stated.

South Goa Collector Egna Cleetus advised reporters a Disaster Management crew comprising the Deputy Collector, Police Inspector, Fire and Emergency Services, Anti Terrorism Squad and Bomb Disposal Squad have rushed to the location.

“I will remark solely after receiving their report. The precise explanation for the blast is but to be ascertained, however witnesses have claimed the explosion occurred in a room within the ship the place welding work was underway,” Ms. Cleetus added.
