U.P.: BJP MLA levels protest in opposition to police in Lucknow over ‘bribery’; two cops despatched to strains

BJP MLA from the Bakshi Ka Talab constituency in Lucknow, Yogesh Shukla, on Friday (November 21, 2025) stated he staged a protest on the Mahigawan police station after alleging that policemen had demanded a bribe to return a recovered cell phone.

According to officers, a sub-inspector and a constable had been despatched to the strains late on Thursday (November 20, 2025) night time after the protest.

Mr. Shukla informed PTI {that a} resident of Mahigawan space had misplaced his cell phone. On Wednesday (November 19, 2025), the person acquired a name from the police station saying the telephone had been recovered. When he reached the station, a policeman allegedly sought a bribe of ₹2,000 to return it.

The MLA stated he intervened after the person approached him for assist and requested the employees handy over the gadget. When the person went again, the policemen allegedly threatened him and denied having the telephone.

Mr. Shukla additional alleged that policemen had been issuing challans arbitrarily to fulfill “targets”, even when motorists had legitimate paperwork.

Citing repeated complaints of corruption, the MLA reached the police station together with his supporters on Thursday night and held a protest. Local residents additionally gathered, and a few raised slogans in opposition to the police.

DCP Gopal Krishan Chaudhary spoke to the MLA and warranted him of obligatory motion, after which the scenario was introduced underneath management.

Mr. Chaudhary later stated Sub-Inspector Dhirendra Rai and Constable Pappu Kushwaha, who had been accused of demanding cash for returning the telephone, had been despatched to the police strains pending inquiry.
