The Vedaranyam Marine Police in Nagapattinam district arrested two Sri Lankan Tamils on Thursday after they allegedly tried to enter the nation as refugees. The arrested had been recognized as D. Vinodh Kumar, 32, of Kankesanthurai, and J. Sinthuson, 25, of Sunnagam Chunnakam in Jaffna. Both didn’t have any bona fide paperwork. 

Coastal Security Group sources mentioned a bunch of fishermen of Arcothurai in Nagapattinam district, who ventured into the ocean, the 2 fishermen stranded within the sea on board a fibre boat which had developed some technical snag. The stranded Sri Lankan Tamil fishermen had been discovered about 5 nautical miles from Arcothurai shore. The Arcothurai fishermen introduced the 2 Lankan Tamil fishermen together with their fibre boat to the shore. 

Acting on info, the Vedaranyam Marine Police performed inquiries with the 2 fishermen whose identities had been revealed.  The two fishermen didn’t have of their possession any legitimate paperwork. 

The sources mentioned the 2 fishermen had reportedly paid ₹1 lakh to an agent to take them to Tamil Nadu in a fibre boat with a purpose to settle as a refugee. As their boat developed restore halfway, the agent apparently known as one other boat and went away in that leaving the 2 fishermen stranded in mid-sea of their boat. The Vedaranyam police have registered a case in opposition to the 2 Sri Lankan Tamils.
