“He has already handed his hardest check as captain. That was in England, 5 Tests away from residence in powerful circumstances in opposition to a high quality workforce,” head coach Gautam Gambhir instructed the media after India’s seven-wicket win on Tuesday (October 14, 2025). “I’ve instructed him to only be himself. No one has executed him a favour by appointing him the Test or one-day captain. He deserves each little bit of it. He ticks all of the bins.”
With Gill’s workload as an all-format star on the rise, Gambhir was requested whether or not the 26-year-old would wish a psychological conditioning coach to deal with the taxing schedule. The former opener, who turned 44 on Tuesday (October 14, 2025), responded in a lighter vein: “First and foremost, I want one. He’s scoring runs. He’s in good area.”
The tenor of the media interplay modified when Gambhir hit out at former chief selector Kris Srikkanth for his insinuation of Harshit Rana being a “yes-man” to the coach. “Look, it’s extraordinarily shameful,” Gambhir stated of Srikkanth’s latest feedback on his YouTube channel. “If for operating your YouTube channel, you go after a 23-year-old, it’s unfair. You can goal folks’s efficiency. But should you say such issues a few 23-year-old child, it’s not good.”
