Amelia Kerr and Amanjot Kaur put up a brave fight and forged an 83-run partnership for the sixth wicket. But in the end, their efforts proved futile as the Mumbai Indians went down to the UP Warriorz by 22 runs, for the second time in three days, in a Women’s Premier League fixture.

Meg Lanning led from the front with a 45-ball 70 and Phoebe Litchfield struck 61 off 37 balls to guide Warriorz to 187 for eight at the D.Y. Patil Stadium on Saturday (January 17, 2026). Mumbai Indians were on the back foot for most of the chase, as they lost the first five wickets for just 69 runs in 11 overs.

While the defending champion was staring at a big defeat as none of the top-order batters could rise to the occasion, Kerr (49 n.o., 28b, 6×4, 1×6) and Amanjot (41, 24b, 4×4, 3×6) brought the game to life, making most of the reprieves.

However, Shikha Pandey bowled a tight spell at the death and eventually broke the partnership with a sharp return catch to sent back Amanjot as Mumbai eventually fell short.

Mumbai changed its opening pair once again and went ahead with Hayley Matthews and Sajeevan Sajana. But the move did not pay off as the partnership did not last three overs as the home team struggled in the PowerPlay. It was a day when neither Harmanpreet Kaur nor Nicola Carey could step up.

Warriorz dominated in every department. Despite losing opener Kiran Navgire for a duck, Warriorz rode on Lanning and Litchfield’s 119-run partnership off just 74 balls to seize control of the innings. As Mumbai dropped quite a few catches, the two went on to score gritty fifties.

Amanjot broke the partnership by removing the left-handed Litchfield. Matthews struck in the next over to dismiss Lanning and put the brakes on the Warriorz’s innings. However, Harleen Deol and Chloe Tyron provided the finishing touches with quick-fire cameos and guided them to a total, which proved enough.
