Squash World Cup | Australia, South Africa rally to post victories

Australia, Brazil and South Africa mounted impressive comebacks on day two of the SDAT Squash World Cup 2025 at Express Avenue Mall, Chennai.

Australia and Brazil came back against Poland and Switzerland, respectively, after losing their opening matches due to walkovers. Australia recorded a 3-1 win, and Brazil salvaged a 2-2 draw. Australian player Madison Lyon hasn’t arrived in India due to visa issues, and the team had to forfeit her game.

South Africa, meanwhile, recovered from going a match down to defeat the Republic of Korea.

Results: Pool A: South Africa bt Republic of Korea 3-1 (Teagan Russell lost to Song Chaewon 2-7, 4-7, 7-5, 0-7; Dewald Van Niekerk bt Ryu Jeongmin 7-2, 7-5, 7-5; Hayley Ward bt Eum Hwayeong 7-4, 7-6, 7-4; Damian Groenewald bt Ko Youngjo 7-3, 7-4, 7-1)

Pool B: Brazil drew with Switzerland 2-2 (Bruna Marchesi Petrillo w/o Stella Kaufmann; Diego Gobbi bt Louai Hafez 2-7, 7-2, 7-5, 7-4; Laura Silva lost to Celine Walser 2-7, 5-7, 1-7; Pedro Mometto bt Robin Gadola 7-6, 7-3, 7-6)

Pool C: Australia bt Poland 3-1 (Madison Lyon lost to Sofia Zrazhevska (walkover); Joseph White bt Jan Samborski 7-4, 7-3, 7-4; Jessica van der Walt bt Karina Tyma 7-4, 4-7, 7-1, 7-5; Dylan Molinaro bt Kajetan Lipski 7-0, 7-6, 7-3).

Pool D: Egypt bt Iran 4-0 (Nardine Garas bt Fatemeh Falahati 7-4, 7-1, 7-1; Adam Hawal bt Sepehr Etemadpour 7-2, 7-2, 7-0; Nour Heikal bt Fereshteh Eghtedari 7-6, 7-4, 7-2; Ibrahim Elkabbani bt Pouya Shafiefard 7-1, 7-4, 7-3)
