According to BMC, the enumeration of stray canine was carried out in two phases — from September 18 to 21, and from September 22 to 25 throughout all 67 wards of the company space. As many as 410 groups have been shaped below the supervision of senior veterinary officers for the census.
The census consequence says there are presently 47,126 stray canine within the BMC space. Among them, 23,047 are male, 15,552 are feminine, and 1,124 are puppies. Of these, 4,068 male canine and three,335 feminine canine have been sterilized.
“Bhubaneswar’s present resident inhabitants is about 13 lakh (1.3 million). The stray canine inhabitants accounts for 3.62% of the human inhabitants — that’s, on common, every ward has round 703 stray canine,” says BMC.
The prime 10 wards with the best variety of stray canine are 23, 7, 49 and 65, Ward No. 23 has the best 1,703 stray canine adopted by Ward No. 6 with 1,062 canine.
“According to the twentieth National Livestock Census performed by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, the stray canine density within the BMC space is considerably larger than the nationwide common. While the nationwide common is 11 stray canine per 1,000 people, Bhubaneswar has 36 stray canine per 1,000 people, in comparison with the state common of 39,” stated the company
The BMC additional stated the census was performed to cut back battle between stray canine and people, enhance the well being and welfare of stray canine, develop an efficient and environment friendly sterilization programme, cut back canine chunk incidents and defend the general public and canine from lethal ailments like rabies.
