Intensifying its assault on the Modi authorities, Congress chief Jairam Ramesh stated Mr. Trump had raised the problem thrice previously 5 days, “clearly brushing apart” the Ministry of External Affairs’s (MEA) stand that no such telephone dialog passed off between the 2 leaders.
“The matter of India’s imports of oil from Russia has been raised by President Trump now thrice previously 5 days. And little question he’ll hold rising this tally as he prepares to satisfy President (Vladimir) Putin in Budapest later within the week. President Trump says he has spoken to his good buddy Mr. Modi and India has promised to cease these imports. The MEA says that it’s unaware of such conversations(!) however President Trump has clearly brushed apart the MEA’s makes an attempt at denial,” Mr. Ramesh stated in a put up on X.
Speaking to reporters onboard Air Force One on Sunday, Mr. Trump stated India will proceed to pay huge tariffs if it doesn’t stop shopping for oil from Russia, including that it (India) doesn’t wish to try this. The U.S. President was replying to a query about India’s current remarks on oil purchases from Russia.
“Why is Modi not replying to Trump instantly? Why is he hiding behind the External Affairs Ministry and asking officers to reply? If Trump is mendacity — say it your self, Mr. Modi. If he’s telling the reality — then clarify to the folks of India. Typical Modi model — loud at dwelling, silent overseas. Different tales for Delhi and Washington,” Congress Whip within the Lok Sabha Manickam Tagore stated in a put up on X.
Last Wednesday, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated he was not conscious of any such telephone dialog between the U.S. President and the Indian Prime Minister, emphasising that India’s oil purchases are guided by the pursuits of the Indian shoppers in a “unstable” power state of affairs.
