Land for second section of Seaport-Airport Road growth handed over to RBDCK

The land belonging to HMT and Naval Armament Depot (NAD) required for the second section growth of Seaport-Airport Road has been handed over to the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation Kerala (RBDCK), the challenge implementation company.

Industries Minister P. Rajeeve mentioned that the handover had resolved the principle hurdle behind the greater than two-decade delay within the second section of the challenge. He added that highway development within the space involved would start shortly.

The HMT land was required for the stretch between HMT and NAD, which is a part of the second section of Seaport-Airport Road development. A complete of 1.40 hectares in Thrikkakara North village have been handed over. The land worth of ₹37.90 crore has been deposited in a nationalised financial institution as per the path of the Supreme Court, which had authorised the State authorities to make the deposit.

Additionally, 2.46 hectares from NAD required for the highway growth challenge have been handed over. “The authorities had already allotted ₹32.26 crore, which incorporates ₹23.11 crore because the land worth assessed by the Defence Ministry, ₹8.16 crore for widening NAD-Thorappu Road, and ₹99.43 lakh for establishing the compound wall,” mentioned a communication.

Last month, the State authorities had granted administrative sanction for ₹17.31 crore for the development of a highway alongside HMT and NAD stretches. Tender procedures are beneath method. The highway close to HMT might be constructed with a width of 45 metres and a size of 600 metres. As the highway sketch close to NAD has already been ready, follow-up measures are anticipated to proceed directly. Tendering for the widening of the NAD-Thorappu Road would even be undertaken concurrently, the assertion mentioned.

The tender for the NAD-Mahilalayam stretch might be issued in December. Land acquisition for the 6.50-km stretch within the space is nearing completion. The Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) has sanctioned ₹569.34 crore for land acquisition on this area.

“Seaport-Airport Road, which spans 25.70 km between Irumpanam and Nedumbassery, performs an important position in easing site visitors congestion in Kochi and facilitating easy accessibility to the Kochi airport,” it mentioned.
