In a major improvement, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio introduced that Russia can be imposed with further sanctions by Washington if Moscow fails to offer a proper proposal outlining its circumstances for a ceasefire within the Russia-Ukraine battle, as reported by Anadolu Agency.
Giving particulars earlier than the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Rubio stated that such a delay from Russia would present Moscow’s actual intent to barter on the matter.

When requested about the potential for new sanctions, Rubio stated such measures are possible if Russia seems unwilling to pursue peace and continues the conflict effort.
“If it is clear that the Russians are not interested in a peace deal and they just want to keep fighting a war, it may very well come to that point,” he famous, as quoted by Anadolu Agency.
However, Rubio emphasised that US President Donald Trump prefers to not threaten sanctions at this stage, fearing it may derail the diplomatic course of.
“The president believes that right now, if you start threatening sanctions, the Russians will stop talking,” Rubio stated as quoted by Anadolu Agency.
Rubio added that Trump is “very committed” to ending the battle and needs to keep up the flexibility to affect each events towards a peaceable decision for so long as doable.
Earlier on Monday, US President Trump introduced that Russia and Ukraine would “immediately” start negotiations towards a ceasefire and a possible finish to the continued conflict after his two-hour-long name with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He disclosed that the Vatican, represented by newly elected Pope Leo XIV, has expressed curiosity in internet hosting the negotiations.
