At least three Indian nationals have died, and 5 others stay lacking after a launch boat carrying crew members of a tanker capsized throughout a crew switch operation off Beira port in central Mozambique, in accordance with the Indian High Commission in Mozambique. The incident occurred on Friday (October 17, 2025) throughout a reported routine switch of crew members to a vessel anchored offshore.

The boat, which was carrying a complete of 14 Indian nationals, overturned within the waters off Beira below yet-to-be-determined circumstances. “A launch boat carrying crew members of a tanker, together with 14 Indian nationals, capsized throughout crew switch operations off Beira port in central Mozambique. Some of the Indian nationals concerned within the accident have been rescued. Unfortunately, three Indian nationals have died within the accident, and a few are nonetheless unaccounted for,” the High Commission said in a press release.

In a sequence of posts on X (previously Twitter), the Indian High Commission expressed its condolences over the lack of lives. “We convey our heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives, including of three Indian nationals, in a boat accident off Beira port. High Commission is in contact with families of those who have lost their lives in this unfortunate accident and is extending all possible assistance to them,” the High Commission posted.

The High Commission additional confirmed that 5 Indian nationals have been efficiently rescued from the mishap and are protected.

One of the survivors is at the moment receiving medical remedy at a hospital in Beira. “A Consular Officer from Mission is in Beira and visited Indian national who survived the unfortunate boat mishap and is receiving medical attention in the hospital in Beira. Five other Indian nationals have been rescued,” one other publish said.

Search and rescue operations are actively underway to find the 5 lacking Indian nationals. Local authorities, maritime companies, and the Indian Mission are collectively coordinating the efforts.
