The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) finalised a panel of three IPS officers match for appointment as Director-General of Police/Head of Police Force of Tamil Nadu police.

The UPSC had convened the Empanelment Committee Meeting in Delhi final Friday to shortlist the panel of three DGP-rank officers for the highest put up. The State was represented by its Chief Secretary N. Muruganandham. Top officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Central Paramilitary Forces additionally participated, the sources stated. 

The minutes of the assembly and the names of the three eligible officers within the panel has been finalised and could be communicated to the Tamil Nadu Government in a day or two, police sources stated.

Once the panel is obtained, the State must instantly appoint one of many officers as an everyday DGP/HoPF with a minimal tenure of two years in compliance with the Supreme Court order. 

After sending the panel, the sources stated that the integrity certificates for one officer was withdrawn and a few points have been flagged in opposition to a few others in search of their disqualification. There was no response from a high state authorities official to queries despatched by The Hindu on this regard. 

Though the proposal comprising the listing of eight eligible DGP-rank officers was despatched by the State Government solely within the final week of August, the Empanelment Committee Meeting was known as on Friday after the Supreme Court, whereas disposing of a contempt case, requested the UPSC to finish the method expeditiously.

The high three DGPs within the order of seniority are Seema Agrawal, Rajeev Kumar, and Sandeep Rai Rathore. The different officers are Ok. Vanniaperumal, Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, G. Venkatraman (presently in-charge DGP/HoPF), Vinit Dev Wankhede, and Sanjay Mathur. 

In the contempt case, Madurai-based advocate Henri Tiphagne stated the 2018 judgment of the Supreme Court required a State to ship a proposal in anticipation of emptiness to the DGP put up, to the UPSC a minimum of three months previous to the superannuation of the incumbent. 

However, the State had not despatched such a proposal to the UPSC throughout the timeframe for empanelment and in addition appointed an officer as in-charge DGP/HoPF in violation of the apex courtroom order, he stated.
