Nepal Gen-Z protests: FIR registered in opposition to deposed PM Oli, his Home Minister

Nepal’s youth-led Gen-Z group, which organised anti-government protests final month, on Tuesday (October 7, 2025) registered an FIR in opposition to deposed Prime Minister Okay.P. Sharma Oli after which Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, looking for their prison accountability for the deaths in the course of the demonstrations.

The Kathmandu District Police Circle Spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Pawan Bhattarai, confirmed that the FIR was registered on the Kathmandu District Police Office, Bhadrakali, in opposition to UML chairman Oli and Nepali Congress chief Lekhak.

He mentioned that since a probe fee to analyze the matter has already been constituted, the police have forwarded the FIR to the high-level Judicial Investigation Commission headed by Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki.

“The FIR registered by the Gen-Z youths with the police will set up their (Oli and Lekhak’s) prison accountability and pave the best way for investigation of the crime dedicated on 8 and 9 September,” mentioned senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi.

“The severe crime dedicated by the state brokers shouldn’t go unpunished, and impunity should be ended,” he added.

Nineteen protesters have been killed in the course of the police firing on September 8, the primary day of the Gen-Z protests. In complete, 76 folks have been killed in the course of the two-day protests on September 8 and 9.
