Walter Scott Jr., R&B icon and founding member of The Whispers, died on June 26 at 81 after battling most cancers, six months post-diagnosis.

The R&B icon gained notoriety as a founding member of the vocal group The Whispers, who launched classics together with Rock Steady in 1987 and And the Beat Goes On in 1979.

His contribution to music, tradition, and the hearts of so many won’t ever be forgotten,” she wrote on FB. “Walter was greater than a performer — he was a part of a motion that introduced soul, concord, and timeless love songs to generations. His legacy will proceed to dwell on by way of each observe, each lyric, and each fan he touched.”
