Plea to revive Dhyana Mandapam, preserve it open for devotees

‘Authorities have prevented the devotees and the general public from meditating on this corridor’

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday sought response from authorities to a public curiosity litigation petition looking for a course to The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department to revive Dhyana Mandapam in Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai and preserve it open for devotees.

A Division Bench of Justices S.M. Subramaniam and A.D. Maria Clete was listening to the petition filed by V. Karuppu of Madurai. The petitioner stated Dhyana Mandapam was designed to facilitate meditation. The Dhyana Mandapam served as a chosen area for quiet contemplation, selling interior peace and fostering a reference to the divine or the common consciousness.

However, the authorities have prevented the devotees and the general public from meditating on this corridor and began to make use of it as a retailer home to maintain the wood logs, iron bars and different temple items. Now, the meditation corridor is in a nasty situation and isn’t being maintained correctly, he stated.

The meditation corridor is a component and parcel of the temple. To use the meditation corridor as a retailer home and to stop devotees from meditating was completely in opposition to the Vedic ideas based mostly on which the temple was designed and constructed. The authorities can not act in opposition to the Vedic ideas, he stated.

The petitioner stated he had written to the authorities to revive Dhyana Mandapam to its authentic place and permit the general public to meditate within the corridor. However, his efforts had failed, he stated and sought a course to the HR and CE authorities to revive Dhyana Mandapam to its authentic situation and preserve it open for the devotees.
