The History of Sound trailer: Paul Mescal and Josh OConnor lead Oliver Hermanus homosexual interval drama

Mubi has launched the official trailer for The History of Sound, a historic romance starring Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor. The movie, which premiered on the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Palme d’Or, is predicated on a brief story by Ben Shattuck, who additionally wrote the screenplay.

Set throughout and after World War I, The History of Sound follows Lionel (Mescal), a gifted singer from rural Kentucky who leaves house to check music in Boston. There, he meets David (O’Connor), a fellow pupil and composer. After David is drafted into the conflict, the 2 reunite in 1920 to journey by the forests and islands of Maine, amassing people songs to protect them for future generations.
