The Kia Sonet has secured a significant position in the subcompact SUV segment, contributing to 35% of the brand’s sales and exporting over 1 lakh units.

The Kia Sonet has crossed the 5 lakh sales mark in India, marking another important chapter in Kia’s journey in the country. The subcompact SUV has steadily found its place with buyers since its introduction, operating in one of the most crowded and competitive segments of the market, which is the sub-4-metre SUVs.

Commenting on the milestone, Sunhack Park, Chief Sales Officer at Kia India, said the achievement reflects the confidence Indian customers have shown in the brand. He noted that the Sonet’s progress over the years highlights how its mix of design, technology and everyday usability has aligned with customer expectations.

Launched with a focus on urban and young buyers, the Sonet helped Kia establish a strong presence in the subcompact SUV space. Built in India as part of the brand’s Make in India, for the World approach, the model has evolved in line with changing preferences, appealing to first-time car buyers as well as families looking for a compact yet well-equipped SUV.

In Kia India’s domestic lineup, the Sonet remains a key contributor, accounting for close to 35 per cent of the brand’s overall sales. Its performance has not been limited to the local market either. More than 1 lakh units of the Sonet have been exported to nearly 70 countries across regions such as the Middle East, Africa, Central and South America, Mexico and parts of Asia-Pacific.

Sales momentum for the Sonet has been consistent across large cities and smaller markets. The model has crossed the one lakh annual sales mark for two years in a row. Multiple engine and gearbox options, along with a wide spread of variants, have played a role in broadening its appeal. This ensures that there is a variant out there for everyone. The increasing share of higher trims also points to a growing preference for better-equipped and more connected offerings over base and mid-level variants.

Kia Sonet is currently priced between 7.30 lakh and 14 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom. There are three engine options from which the customers can choose from – a 1.0-litre turbo petrol, a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.
