35,000 property homeowners in Bengaluru are able to handle stable waste on their premises: DKS

Deputy Chief Minister D.Ok. Shivakumar on Thursday mentioned that homeowners of about 35,000 property homeowners in Bengaluru have come ahead to handle the stable wastes generated on their premises.

“The authorities has allowed their request to deal with the stable wastes generated on their premises,” he informed the Legislative Council, responding to BJP member S. Keshav Prasad, who raised the problem of a excessive share of cess on properties in Bengaluru and the consumer charge being imposed.

The Deputy Chief Minister mentioned that the rubbish administration within the metropolis was “managed by mafia”, which didn’t enable floating of tenders.

On the problem of the consumer charge, which the BJP member termed as too excessive, Mr. Shivakumar mentioned that the proposal to extend the consumer charge got here first from the Centre in 2016 and was accepted by the BBMP in 2020. “Considering it to be too excessive, I instructed officers to scale back the charge. What is now being proposed is simply 25% of what the Centre had directed us to implement,” he mentioned.

Regarding the charge on vacant websites, he mentioned that the federal government is proposing to deliver laws to make sure that the vacant website shouldn’t be used as a dumping floor. “The proprietor has to have a compound and maintain the premises clear. We will crack down on lorries dumping particles indiscriminately close to lakes and open areas. We will set up CCTV cameras to watch the vehicles. Tenders will even be floated to utilise the particles,” Mr. Shivakumar mentioned.
