The facility is designed to process surplus maize fodder, which is abundant during the monsoon season, into silage grass packed in 75–100 kg bales. These bales are distributed to dairy farmers during periods of fodder shortage, ensuring year-round nutrition for livestock. The initiative is expected to improve both the health of cattle and the quantity, quality of milk production.
The project also supports local maize farmers by guaranteeing fair prices for their produce, benefiting the farming community while providing essential fodder to around 3.75 lakh milk producers across the region.
During his visit, the Collector reviewed the unit’s operations, assessed production quality, and provided guidance for further improvements. Officials from the department, including Aavin General Manager Amirthalingam, were present and participated in discussions on enhancing efficiency and output.
