Transport Minister Pankaj Singh on Tuesday introduced the federal government has determined to increase the present Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy as much as March 31, 2026, as stakeholders are but to carry consultations on the draft of the brand new coverage.

On April 15, the Cabinet mentioned the draft coverage and deferred approval of key proposals, reminiscent of phasing out CNG auto-rickshaws and fossil fuel-based two-wheelers inside two years. The new coverage goals for 100% adoption of electrical automobiles within the Capital over the following three years.

“The present Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy has been prolonged till March 31, 2026, or till a brand new coverage replaces it earlier than that,” Mr. Singh mentioned after the Cabinet assembly.

The Minister mentioned, through the prolonged interval, there might be dialogue on the important thing provisions of the coverage, which embody strengthening of the EV charging infrastructure, creating sturdy techniques for protected e-waste and battery disposal, reviewing subsidies and waivers to spice up EV adoption, and clearly defining the position of the private and non-private sectors in advancing the electrical mobility ecosystem.

The earlier Aam Aadmi Party authorities first launched the EV coverage in 2020, which lapsed in August 2023, and it has been prolonged since then.
