The marathon was flagged off on Park Gate Road by Coimbatore Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, Inspector General in Border Security Force (BSF) V. Balakrishnan, and Coimbatore City Police Commissioner A. Saravana Sundar.
Mr. Giriyappanavar said events like this combine fitness with a community cause. “Every stride reflects the city’s commitment to health, unity, and well-being. Having personally participated in this marathon for the past two years, I have seen citizens from all walks of life come together. We can, together, make Coimbatore a model for fitness and collective well-being,” he said.
T. Balaji, Managing Trustee of the CCF, said, “The marathon this year saw record participation. The support from participants and the community demonstrates the shared commitment towards health and cancer awareness.”
The marathon was held across four categories — 21.1 km run, 10 km run, 5 km run, and 5 km walk — and recorded 25,116 participants, of whom 19,455 were men and 5,661 were women; the course included hydration points, medical facilities, ambulances, route markers, and marshals, and electronic timing chips were used to track the runners’ times.
The total prize money was ₹3.85 lakh. Winners of the 21.1 km category received ₹60,000, ₹35,000, and ₹25,000. The 10 km category awarded ₹35,000, ₹25,000, and ₹12,500.
