Persons from diverse fields receive awards at 37th Margazhi Mahotsav

SSeveral people, including artistes of various fields, were honoured at the 37th Margazhi Mahotsav organised by Bharat Kalachar on Sunday.

Gnana Kala Bharathi was presented to Carnatic musician and Chitravina maestro N. Ravikiran; Viswa Kala Bharathi to ghatam exponent S. Karthick; Acharya Kala Bharathi to Bharatanatyam exponent and guru Padmini Krishnamurthy; Vimarshaka Kala Bharathi to senior arts commentator and journalist S. Janaki; and Kala Seva Bharathi to Mohanedass Delamourd, founder-director of Triveni Association, a non-profitable organisation to promote art and culture. V. Sreevathson, a writer, director, and on-stage performer, got Nadaga Kala Bharathi. Actor-filmmaker Suhasini Maniratnam received the K. Balachander Trophy for Artistic Excellence.

The Bala Kala Bharathi Award was given to Akshath Piram (bharatanatyam), P.S. Sudarsan (bhagavata mela) and Thiruvarur Kavin Prakash (Carnatic music nadaswaram).

Yuva Kala Bharathi awards were received by R. Sai Vignesh (vocal), Preethi Sethuraman (vocal), Prithvi Harish (vocal), Vishruthi Girish (vocal), Shreelakshmi S. Bhat (violin), H. Vishwas (mandolin), Shri Sainath S. (ghatam), Swathi Vignesh (tamil drama), Riha Giri (bharatanatyam), Shruthe Rammohan (bharatanatyam), Sundaresan Pandurangan (bharatanatyam) and Kameshwari Ganesan (all-rounder).

Sowjanya Suresh (bharatanatyam), S. Kumar (service to Tamil theatre) and Sathvika Shankar (bharatanatyam) got special commendation.

N. Kumar, chairman, group corporate board, The Sanmar Group,  Mr. Ravikiran, Isai Kavi Ramanan, Ms. Maniratnam, Mr. Karthick, Ms. Kameshwari Ganesan, secretary of Bharat Kalachar Y. Gee. Mahendra, and cultural consultant Y.G. Madhuvanthi spoke. Ravi Murugaiah, chairman, Vasan Estates, was also present.
