According administrative approval for Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board’s proposal to arrange residential colleges for the kids of beneficiaries of the board in 31 districts, the federal government on July 22 stated the proposed college for Dakshina Kannada district would come up at Kuriya, situated 12 km away from Puttur city.
Mr. Rai earmarked 15 acres of land in Kuriya village for the aim. He thanked Labour Minister Santosh Lad and the board for selecting Puttur constituency for establishing the college that ‘would go a good distance in offering high quality and free training to the kids of development employees’.
While the federal government has allowed the Board to spend ₹1,125 crore to determine residential colleges in 31 districts, the college in Puttur would come up at a value of ₹37.65 crore. While ₹33 crore can be spent on development of lecture rooms, rooms for sports activities, library, laboratory, workplace, hostels for girls and boys, ₹90 lakh can be spent on establishing a compound wall, ₹3 crore can be spent on furnishings and ₹75 lakh can be spent on laboratory gear.
Stating that the college might accommodate as much as 1,000 college students, Mr. Rai knowledgeable that it could be the biggest residential college within the district. Children might enrol from class 6 to 12 within the residential college.
The MLA thanked Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D. Okay. Shivakumar for sanctioning the college to his constituency.
