Residents of Nallurpalayam in Coimbatore express resentment over location identified for new bus shelter

Residents of Nallurpalayam in Vandambasseri Revenue Village, Sulur Taluk, have petitioned the district administration opposing the “distant” location chosen for construction of a bus shelter utilising the constituency development fund of Lok Sabha MP representing Coimbatore Constituency Ganapathy P. Rajkumar.

Espousing the cause of the residents, including a chunk belonging to Arundathiyar community, State Minister for Human Resource Management N. Kayalvizhi Selvaraj made a representation to the Coimbatore district administration during October this year urging the authorities to instal the shelter at a location of convenience for the residents of Nallurpalayam.

The bus shelter has been planned for construction at a location that is about 500 metres away from the existing bus stop.

Be it school and college-going students, women travelling elsewhere for jobs, elders going to hospitals, and the residents entirely rely on the government bus services (routes 105 and 6). A bus shelter has been a long-felt need. The residents have been emphasising that the shelter be constructed closer to the existing bus stop.

The “distant” location identified for construction of the bus shelter will cause immense inconvenience for the residents of Nallurpalayam, Mohanraj N. a resident of Nallurpalayam had said in a representation to Mr. Ganapathy Rajkumar.

About 50 residents of Nallurpalayam submitted the petition to the district authorities on Friday.

According to P. Senathipathy, a resident, the authorities have promised to conduct an inspection in the coming days before finalising the location for the bus shelter.
