T.N. reduces TET qualifying marks by 5%
According to the order, 5% qualifying marks have been reduced for candidates belonging to the categories of Backward Class (BC), Backward Class Muslim (BC (M)), Most Backward Class (MBC), Denotified Communities (DNC) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) while 15% qualifying marks have been reduced for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). No change in qualifying marks for general category candidates which stands at 60%.
Previously, the minimum qualifying marks were capped at 55%. A proposal was submitted by the Director of School Education to fix the minimum qualifying marks of TNTET on the basis of similar provisions in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, and Maharashtra. These marks will be applicable for the TET exams conducted in November 2025 too.
The category-wise minimum qualifying marks for passing the TNTET was set in accordance with the guidelines issued by the National Council for Teacher Education, the order said.
School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi posted on X that the government was committed to the welfare of teachers. “The happiness of teachers is the happiness of the #DravidianModel government! In a manner that benefits several lakh teachers as well as candidates awaiting with dreams of becoming teachers, the eligibility marks in upcoming teacher eligibility examinations are being revised…,” he posted.
