Three employees died of suspected asphyxiation whereas cleansing a ballast tank of a vessel on the previous harbour in Thoothukudi on Wednesday.

According to police, on Wednesday night, three employees who entered the ballast tank to launch the water turned unconscious. The employees had been recognized as Sandeep Kumar, 23 from Rajasthan, T. Jeniston, 34 from Punnaikayal and G. Sharon, 23 from Uvari. When all three didn’t return after a particular time, colleagues alerted the police and fireplace and rescue service division.
