A motorist escaped with minor accidents and the wheels of a heavy automobile obtained trapped in a street cave-in at Ambattur on Sunday. The footage of the incident has gone viral on social media.
Karukku Main Road in Ambattur is a vital hyperlink street because it connects the Chennai Bypass with the Ambattur Industrial Estate and Pattravakkam.
On Sunday morning, a portion of the street close to the Vishnu temple all of the sudden caved-in. A two-wheeler rider fell into the crater, and the rear wheels of a truck that was proper behind the two-wheeler obtained trapped within the gap.
Residents within the locality rushed to the spot and rescued the motorist.
Road barricaded
On being alerted concerning the cave-in, Ambattur police went to the spot and barricaded the street. Traffic police personnel had been deputed after numerous folks gathered to shoot movies of the incident.
Inquiry with the Chennai Corporation revealed that the cave-in was brought on by a rupture of a sewage pipeline, which is linked to the Korattur sewage pumping station, the police stated.

“A harm in the principle sewage pipeline is suspected to be the reason for the cave-in. The pipeline is previous — laid solely after Ambattur turned part of the Chennai Corporation. Metrowater officers are checking. Due to a scarcity of employees on Sunday, the street is predicted to be restored by 10 a.m. on Monday. For now, barricades have been erected on the stretch, and police have been deployed to stop any untoward incidents,” the Ambattur Ward Committee Chairperson, B.Ok. Murthy, stated.
