42,345 houses to be allotted to poor families on january 24

As many as 42,345 houses will be allotted to poor families by the Karnataka Slum Development Board in a State-level programme to be attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and others in Hubballi on January 24.

Addressing presspersons at the event venue on Mantur Road in Hubballi on Saturday, Minister for Housing, Wakf and Minority Welfare B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan said that around two lakh people were expected to participate in the mega event which would begin at 11 a.m. on January 24.

The Minister said that already 36,789 houses had been allotted in the first phase and this was the second phase of allotment in which 42,345 houses were being allotted. This apart, it had been planned to complete and distribute 30,000 houses in the third phase, which was likely to be in April or May, he said.

Mr. Ahmed said that in the second phase a total of 2,767 houses, including 1,008 houses, were being distributed.

“In all 1,80,253 houses are being built. The State government is giving ₹4 lakh for each house. This apart there will be subsidy from both State and Central governments. The beneficiaries will have to pay just ₹1 lakh. As many as 20,363 slum dwellers will be symbolically given record of rights through video conference,” he said.

Chairman of Karnataka Slum Development Board Prasad Abbayya said that the houses were being built and distributed with the objective to provide shelter to the poor. Hospital, library and community hall had also been built along with the houses, he said.

Mr. Abbayya said that already 860 houses had been distributed among the beneficiaries under the Ashraya scheme.

Earlier accompanied by Mr. Abbayya and others, the Minister went around inspecting the houses and the amenities. MLC Abdul Jabbar, former MP I.G. Sanadi, former NWKRTC chairman Sadanand Danganavar and others were present.
